Our Curriculum

• Listen and respond to instructions in two parts (get your coat and wait at the door).
• Use wider range of vocabulary, expressing a point of view.
• Listening to stories and recalling events/characters.

Having sense of self, others and managing emotions (PSED/CL)

• Identify emotions and understand each other’s feelings.
• Develop their sense of responsibility and membership of a community (sense of self).
• Develop appropriate ways of being assertive.
• Talk about feelings in more elaborated ways e.g ‘I am sad because…’.

Independence & making choices (PD/ CL/ UW)

• Eat independently and learning how to use a knife and fork.
• Continue to develop their movement balancing, skipping, hopping, standing on one leg.
• Match their developing physical skills to tasks and activities in the setting.
• Use one-handed tools and equipment (scissors).
• Be increasingly independent as they get dressed, using toilet, brushing teeth and drying hands).
• Choose the right resources to carry out their own plan.
• Make healthy choices about food, drink, activity and toothbrushing.

Having the social skills and confidence to play alongside / with other children/taking turns & sharing (PSED I CL I PD I UW/M)

• Build constructive and respectful friendships.
• Play with one or more other children, extending and elaborating play ideas.
• Help to find solutions to conflicts and rivalries.
• Become more outgoing with unfamiliar people, in the safe context of the setting.
• Start a conversation with an adult or friend.

Nursery Focus – To Support Children To See The Wonderful World In Which They Live In – Awe And Wonder

• Understand boundaries within the community.
• Have a sense of responsibility (accomplish with small tasks – be a good helper- littering, helping adults).
• Understand how to be safe while out in the community (stranger danger, safe crossing).
• Understand that there are different countries in the world and will be able to talk about the differences they have experienced or seen in photos.
• Understand that there are some people who help us/ expressing interest in career choices.
• Understand and describe their position in nursery/ family.
• Plants and animals need to be cared for (sense of responsibility).
• Understand and accept each other’s differences.
• Talk about what makes them unique.
• Understand that they are different materials: being able to notice similarities and differences (size, shapes, colours).
