Strengthening Partnerships in Early Years

We are proud to have received an award from Manchester City Council’s Early Years sector for our partnership working, recognising our strong relationships with parents, staff, and the wider community. At WMB Childcare, we believe that when parents and educators work together, children thrive.

During one of our Stay and Play sessions, I saw this in action when a young boy’s face lit up upon seeing his dad. He proudly showed him around and engaged him in play—a perfect example of how parental involvement builds confidence.

Strengthening Parent Engagement

Over the years, we have enhanced our approach to actively involve parents in their child’s early years.

1. Stay and Play

These sessions teach and support parents in their child’s learning. For example, we set up activities to help prepare preschoolers for school. Parents can:
 • Observe how their child interacts with others.
 • Gain ideas for learning at home.
 • Feel reassured about their child’s progress.

2. Celebrations

We bring families together through events like Eid, Christmas, and birthdays, which:
 • Build a sense of community.
 • Encourage parental involvement.
 • Celebrate cultural diversity.

3. Meet Your Key Worker

These sessions allow parents to:
 • Discuss their child’s development.
 • Share any concerns or insights.
 • Strengthen relationships with staff.

4. Parent Trips

Inviting parents on outings—like to a farm or museum—allows them to:
 • Share special moments with their child.
 • See play-based learning in action.
 • Strengthen home-nursery connections.

5. Insights into Nursery Life

We invite parents to observe and engage in:
 • Circle time and storytelling.
 • Outdoor play.
 • Mealtimes and social interactions.

This builds trust and continuity between home and nursery.

In conclusion, winning the MCC award is an honour, but the real reward is seeing the impact of strong partnerships every day. When parents, staff, and the wider community work together, children flourish with confidence, curiosity, and a love for learning.
